#ScreenshotSaturday – Project 5 – @iamrece

Twitter is a wonderful place for new ideas and emerging memes.  A few weeks ago the idea caught on for indie game developers (of all platforms) to post screenshots of games in progress using the hash tag #ScreenshotSaturday.  There is even a website setup if you just want to browse the images: http://screenshotsaturday.pekuja.com/

Posts from XBLIG developers have been light, but one game caught my eye – “Project 5”.  I’m pretty sure it’s a working title, as the developer, @iamrece, describes the game as “my 5th project”:

It’s a 3D platformer game with collectible items, weapons, dungeon type things, etc. I’m building it using XNA with plans of releasing it on XBLIG. The world is fairly big with some nice details. The images above are WIP for this phase. They’ll be fully textured and there’s also much more to the environment. That treehouse lift works and the pulley system that’s not in the screenshot turns, haha. Well you can kind of see them in the far shot. I’ll hook up a camera and get some in-game gameplay videos at some point.

The plans are to release the game to XBLIG early 2011.  Looking at these screenshots, I can’t wait!

Hopefully more XBLIG developers will take part in #ScreenshotSaturday (and include the hashtag #XBLIG to help us out) and we can make this a regular feature of GameMarx.
